LIBBY TRICKETT

Libby Trickett OAM is one of Australia’s most decorated swimmers. She is a four-time Olympic gold medallist who won gold at three consecutive Olympic Games, and a multiple world record holder across five individual events.

Over her career Libby won 24 gold medals on the international stage across Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships events. They include eight long course and seven short course world titles, five Commonwealth Games golds and four Olympic golds.

At the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, she teamed with Alice Mills, Petria Thomas and Jodie Henry to win the 4x100m freestyle relay in world record time. It was Australia’s first win in that event in 48 years. She also took bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Four years later in Beijing, Libby claimed her first individual Olympic gold in the 100m butterfly. She added a second gold in the 4x100m medley relay, again in world record time, along with silver in the 100m freestyle and bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

After a short-lived retirement in 2009, Libby made a determined return to the pool and earned selection for her third Olympic Games in London 2012. There she won gold as part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team, completing a rare run of gold at three consecutive Games.

Libby is revered within the Australian sporting community. She received an OAM for her contribution to swimming in 2005 and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2018 she joined the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and she is also a member of the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame.

Since retiring from competition, Libby has become a passionate mental health advocate. She shared her story in her memoir, Beneath the Surface, and has spoken on the TEDx stage.

In 2025, two months after the birth of her fifth child, Libby survived a SCAD heart attack, initially dismissed as a panic attack. She now speaks openly about her experience to raise awareness of SCAD, the leading cause of heart attack in women under 50.

Libby is also the co-host of Sportish, an Australian podcast that explores sport beyond results. The show looks at how sport shapes identity, wellbeing and everyday life, so more people feel included, connected and able to enjoy being active. Sportish has partnered with the Australian Sports Commission on its Play Well series and was a Rising Star nominee at the ASC media awards.

A warm, honest and engaging speaker, Libby draws on the highs and lows of elite sport to connect with audiences on resilience, wellbeing and life after sport.

Away from work, Libby has her hands full chasing after her five young children.

Libby is available for speaking engagements, commercial partnerships and advertising campaigns.
